About PiciFix

PiciFix was created because I recognised the value of being able to fix things. I see that so many products are thrown away when they stop working, although often 99% of the components are in perfect working order. It is the purpose of the PiciFix website to reduce and help irradiate this extremely wasteful habit and its effect on climate change.

Lots of products are used for an all too brief period, stop working and then are thrown into the rubbish bin. They are carted off to a premature grave in a landfill site, or if they're lucky they are recycled. Either way, this is hideously wasteful. Every product requires some energy to manufacture it (and dispose/recycle it), so the more disposable our products are, the less energy efficient the lifecycle process is.

Recycling is a good thing, but it's not perfect since the process creates carbon emmisions and can only be applied to certain products. With the exception of very energy inefficient items, such as old boilers, old kettles, old washing machines, etc... resurecting products is often a better solution.

The PiciFix site is primarily a repair guide encyclopedia, but also a place where people can share stories, and help encourage each other to successfully fix stuff.
